13 years and 4 kids later

Finally Brian and I are off on a vacation together without kids. We are in Cancun Mexico staying at the Westin Languna Mar resort. While we were standing in line at customs I turn around and who is standing behind me ..... Neil McCoy. We just can't get away from the Nashville connection.

Isla Mujeres

The fun for today was taking a ferry over to Isla Mujeres. From there we bought goodies for the kids and rented a golf cart and drove around the entire island. Then before heading back to Cancun we ate a very local place and had Civeche with chip. Yummy!!!

At one of the drug stores along hotel row we saw where you can just walk in and buy candy, cigarettes, Viagra, amoxicillin , suntan lotion. All pretty much without a prescription. We just had to laugh t the word placements on the store sign.

After a long day of the excursions we needed dinner so we walked across the street to the mall and ate at a place called Blue. After a day of drink nothing but bottled water I wanted something different to drink. So I wanted to get a virgin strawberry daiquiri and Brian wanted a Pina Colada. I told the waiter virgin several times and he said si. So he brings me my drink and I take a drink and I thought it tasted funny but I took another drink just to be sure and well it started to burn my throat a little so I new there was alcohol in it. So I had to send it back and get what I ordered. Brian thought for sure he was going to get lucky that night.

Well our week of fun and adventures has come to an end. I must return to mommy duties and will more than likely be taking Kaison to the doctor. He was getting better when I left but I am betting he has a sinus infection.

So many thanks go out to my in laws for being brave and watching the kids.

Today's big adventure was going to the Tulum ruins and to Xel-Ha a water park. At Tulum we saw a whole city of ruins that was built on the coast. Then we were off to Xel-Ha which is a water park type of place where we went snorkeling and saw tons of beautiful fish.

Ek -Balam and Chichen Itza

We booked an excursion thru Alma Tours to go to Ek Balam, Chichen Itza and a cenote. Our driver is Arni and our tour guide was Louis. First stop of the day was Ek Balam where we were able to climb to the top of the ruin. The stair were very steep and not my favorite. With the help and encouragement from Brian and our new friends Justin and Jessica Christensen from Washington I made it to the top. The view from the top was amazing. Louis told us the because the land here is so flat that if we see a hill then under that hill is a ruin. After we finished there we traveled and had lunch at a la hacienda. Very yummy food. My favorite was the pork wrapped and cooked I a banana leaf. After lunch we traveled to Chichen Itza. Here we saw so much of the Book of Mormon supported here. The carvings into the stones were amazing. To learn about the Mayan calendar was amazing. We are so glad that we book the tours so we could see the evidence of the Book of Mormon.

Feeling Blessed

Being in Mexico was such a great learning experience and an awakening of sorts. While I knew that the medium income was not what we have in the USA , I may have expected more. While talking with our tour guide he told us a good week of work you would earn about 700-750 pesos or about $80.00 a week. How grateful I am for what we have. The life style here is not focused much on what you have or the house you live in or clothes you were. The people here are deeply rooted in their culture and beliefs. For those that are members of the church it is wonderful to see how the completely relate to the Book of Mormon. - Posted using BlogPress from my iPhoneSent from my iPhone
